What is the difference between body positivity and body acceptance? Body positivity emphasizes physical appearance of bodies and representation of all shapes and sizes. Body acceptance is the appreciation, functionality and inherent dignity of the body. Even when we are accepting of all shapes and sizes, which is important, we are talking about a positive relationship with appearance. It’s not that this is bad; it’s just incomplete. Engaging the world through a body – tasting, breathing, moving, touching, eating and aging – is so much more than merely appearing in a body. Therefore in this class, all shapes, sizes, ages, goals, genders, cultures, religions, and demographics are welcome, as everyone can use a refresher in body acceptance. Three Main Goals: 1. Learn gratitude for our bodies 2. Practice body respect 3. Alter our language when we talk about our bodies
